I am currently listening to Silence - Pete Namlook.

I have fond memories of when Gregg (Babaluma) first gave me a copy of this album, had it on a tape and used to play it to death!! - must have been around about 1993!

crazy dude, that's one of the vinyls i brought back from england last summer. have been listening to it loads recently, playing along on bass! very ambient and chilled, very nice live resonant synth lines.

always wondered what his signature synth noodling sound is, always believed it was a prophet 5 or oberheim sem, but know he had/has a lot of analogue gear so could be anything!

his dreamfish album with mixmaster morris from the same period is also great, as was a lot of the techno/trance stuff he knocked out back in the day, as "escape" etc.

currently spinning two scientist albums:

scientist at king tubby's
scientist meets the roots radics

and again, playing along on bass. some of those dub lines are literally just three notes over and over, but they do sound good!

oddly enough i've been listening to namlook with the new composers this week... a really good album.

silence, dreamfish, air... some sort of ambient trinity... love those albums! :)

(also the one with richie hawtin which has a weird ear noise in it).

if anyone doesn't have it i would recommend: a mission into drums. fantastic comp with oliver lieb, ralph herdenberdenscherden and baked beams, 2 tracks each. sublime!

Last time I saw Mad professor he was doing the sound for Lee Perry at Bestival (not sure when that was - was when SeanC and I went along ....)

Time before that I saw him on Brighton about 11 years ago or so...must dig out some of his stuff not listened to it for a long time.

dubnobasswithmyheadman has been doing the rounds this week.

oh sorry to go slightly off-topic but i was wondering if there was any chance of the Manchester gig being uploaded? It was my first black dog gig you see and it was a ace set of old and new, which was perfect for me as I finally got to hear the old stuff, along with the new stuff. UV Sine was f*cking ace :D When I listened to the audio clips on the Radio Scarecrow site and clicked on UV it just brought it all back. Would be nice to hear it again, but no worries if not. If you don't ask, you don't get (though if not, you'll have to come back up and do another gig!) ;)

Oh my mate spoke to Rich at the bar after the gig, but i didn't say anything as i was speechless after finally getting to see you live after so many years! I did shake your hands though :D

It's so amazing - I had it in my car while driving back from my sister's this past week - a 350 mile trek each way. Many parts of the drive were along dark stretches of highway through farmland or over huge bridges with industrial landscapes. It made for a stunning soundtrack to this!

substrata/tibetan field recordings release/Satyricon

Yeah all seconded!

Got Carl Craig and Moritz von Oswald 'recomposing' Ravel and Mussorgsky last week, wasn't sure whether to pick it up or not (cheesy idea but great artists) - only one of the tracks sounds too much like classical music with high-hats, the rest is the quality you'd expect and the second side flickers away just so. Good heavy vinyl too.

Scion - Arrange and Process : Basic Channel Tracks

Perfect for driving home from work in the dark/rain - almost hypnotic in fact.
