Never had a problem with my G4, it's unplugged now tho, no idea what to do with it. The CD/DVD drive is fucked on it and there's no way I'm paying £80 for a mac one :) Tried to get a few old PC CD/DVD ones to work but the Mac aint having it at all.

they have a habit of going Martin, a common fault with G4's is the lower RAM slot. 'an all time low on the upgrade front'

They do look good, SSD are a bit too £££ for us but I'd like one. I've been hacking open our ATV2, feels like the old BBS days :)

I'm thinking about getting a new laptop for music. Now normally I'd go down the PC route but I've not been able to find a decent one with a firewire port for my Audiofire. So I had a look at the MacBook Pro and spec'd it out...pricey bit of kit with the upgrades.

So my question to you mac (& non-mac) users is, what's your opinion on the Pro, worth the money? or should I just get a new soundcard and go down the Windows route?

Looking at...

2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
256GB Solid State Drive
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display

which comes in at £2,528.99 :censored:

though maybe I only need 128GB SSD as I've got an external HD so could use that for storage and that's nice and cheap at £2,208.98...

No software, as I've got what I need already.

I've seen peeps use high spec models just to operate Traktor, seems a waste to me but hey whatever floats ya wallet.

OS fine, no need to import all the languages tho

256GB Solid State Drive

Not sure they are good value for money just yet, I'd go with a 7200 rpm drive right now.

Cheers for the info. It certainly brings the price down. Plus thinking about it i don't really need it, just letting my imagination run away with me. Plus I tend to think if I'm going to spend a lot a cash then I like to make sure it's better to spend the extra now instead of later though I do reckon you're right and it's a bit (well more than haha) of overkill on my part. I do like to dream though :spliff:

And thanks penfolder for the help/info
