arguably, somebody who calls MFRA "doe eyed", simply hasn't listened to it. :twocents:

like we've discussed, Martin. some people will just not "get it", because they are so hung up on progression. Wanting us to spiral off into pointless intracacies of musicianship which mean very little in the outside world. Progressive rock was the dullest thing, since the dullest thing. So one can imagine how Progressive Techno might sound. Right up it's own arse.
I think we've pushed the envelope enough over the last few albums, to be allowed the space to have fun with what we do.

to make people dance, and be happy, in this fucked up squeezy cheezy capitalist world is a wonderful thing. and i don't care what a million critics say, to be honest. if people leave the floor, it's a shit tune. if they stay, and whoop it up, it's a thing of great beauty and joy. i strongly disagree with fatboy slim's recent comment that dance music is just there for "entertainment".

it's an artform thats been debased by commercial pressures.
at it's heart it's pure shamanistic ritual.

just surprising to see the old chestnut wheeled out again, as the ClubbingSpain folks are bang up to date with their info.
not suggesting that the whole of Spain is 17 years behind.

A lot of people do get it tho, that's enough for me and I knew this was coming, I'm just going to blame Ed & Andy :)

I'm probably very much in the minority here but I'm a big fan of progressive rock as well as IDM/electronic music. I guess I've always appreciated music that's dramatic and atmospheric. As prog rock began to die a death in the 80s dance music took over for me, but when I discovered the deeper side of dance, Aphex, FSOL, Orb TBD etc I was totally hooked. Controversially (I suppose) I always saw IDM as like a successor to prog rock.

There's actually some really good new prog rock rearing it's head now too, although it's more progressive in content rather than outlook. However, there's nowt wrong with that ;) .

As far as the new album is concerned, I'm really looking forward to it. Not heard the samples as I have pc issues at the mo, but if it's on a par with he last 4 albums that will do for me as they have been fantastic. Keep em coming, that's what I say.

Well I'm happy to report a lot of people seem to be getting it but all we can do is make the music we want and publish/be damned.

Bought the digital download yesterday... am digging both tracks (and looking forward to the next release).

Appreciate you guys doing what you do, always keeping the right side of the art v commerce conundrum (at least from my point of view :) )

fair enough, Roj.

Roj wrote:As prog rock began to die a death in the 80s dance music took over for me

Did you miss punk completely? prog rock dissapeared up it's own bottom around 1975. then we were bombarded with lame disco, and "frilly shirt bands", which we were told was 'the next big thing'. punk fizzled around 1979. to be replaced with new wave, synth pop, nu-romantics, and "indie" bands.

Roj wrote:I always saw IDM as like a successor to prog rock.

hmmmm.. I can see your point, in that it's often noodly and introspective. but are we talking about the same prog rock? (Genesis, ELP, Yes, Jethro TUll, Rick Wakeman, etc...). those bands don't do anything for me. they're (imho) as dull as dishwater. self obsessed, and musically overindulgent. I accept they have their fans, and their records sold shedloads. but i don't have any.

Krautrock, Kosmiche music, was much more fresh and innovative. (1969-1975?). but it wasn't something we could hear on the radio, in the UK. you had to hunt it down.
