how's life been treating you?

Still got the NWN, or have you moved on to NWN2 ?

It's okay thanks =] yourself?

Errm, I have both games but don't play them anymore =/ play wow and oblivion from time to time. I might get call of duty 6 when it comes out at the end of the year. Hoping Dragon Age will be good... also elder scrolls 5 next year =]

I'm personally hoping for an EverQuest III ... never got to play much of the first (too young), second was amazing at start but they ruined it.. hoping a third will revive the series =] It's lore owns wow's anyday in my opinion.

Sometimes you may have to make your own entertainment.

Still working on my flightsim, off and on.
I had to go back and learn how to code properly.
but i'm confident of pulling it all together, eventually.

On the NWN tip.... Malto and Mishkin are hoping to start up a campaign.
And Tass says that he's found a fun server with good pvp rules to play on.

I hope you do manage to finish it, Ken, it really looked good and it's a great achievement. I am rather impressed, I have only managed 2D games so far, but I might try a 3D project sometime in summer.

On a side note, and a bit off topic... can you tell me how to use phpBB? I downloaded mySQL and PHP of the right versions, but then I dunno what to do. Do I need to get a domain before making a forum or can I do it offline before upping it?

hi Chopper. nice to see you...
Chopper wrote:can you tell me how to use phpBB?

you're best off googling it, dude. i've never used it myself. I used to run 'ikonboard'
because it was an oldskool flatfile database (and didn't need PHP or mySQL to run).
Martin and Richard are more used to PHP/SQL, so they take care of this place now.

I downloaded mySQL and PHP of the right versions, but then I dunno what to do.

lol... world of pain! they all have detailed instructions on how to set them up. first step is to
do a ton of reading. gain a better understanding of what does what, etc... then jump in and
start configuring. You'll blow up your head if you just wade in.

Do I need to get a domain before making a forum or can I do it offline before upping it?

if you're running it from home, chances are you'll be on a IP that resets every time you redial.
in that case, you will need a redirector domain (ours was http://www.dogsquad.kicks-ass.net). they're free, but not tremendously fast. You'll also need your own web server (apache.org works fine).

the servers i have seen, come with their own SQL database deployed, that you can just plug into. You get your own 'control panel' for setting up your forum database tables, design, layout, etc.. Then it's up to you to tweak in the things you want. You can do all that without the forum being 'live', and when you're ready, just turn it on. No need to upload anything.

Hey mate,

Thanks for all that, it's a real help. I will jump on into it when I get a spare minute, been busy with exams and all that stuff. So I've been revising a lot (which, contrary to Tommy's beliefs, does help) and then after that I just don't feel up to doing anything except listening to music and chatting with people.

I'll look into the redirector domains and apache to see what that's all like, I mean if I get bored or can't figure it out I'll just classic it up with one of those automatic ones, maybe some of them look okay.

Bit of an understatement with a spare minute, the phpBB documentation was massive, so more like a spare week. But I'll see how it all goes and I thank you for helping out =]

What's wrong with relational databases, anyway? :D Flat file ones are crazy, all about the relational ones these days ;) I had my ICT exam today so been revising that all week ^^

My second year at college ended up with me getting a distinction through the wonders of multi choice questions lol. We all tried to revise about 10 minutes before the exam but it ended up that we all thought playing Halo on the college lan was much more fun.

i think the documentation is like the bible. You don't necessarily have to read it through from
cover to cover, but you can dip into it for the bits that interest you. Over time, you will
probably have to read the entire thing. But not all in one go!

If you can master the mySQL setup, you could also use that for NWN?
run your own persistent world, etc.. NWNX

give us a shout if you have trouble setting things up.

Cheers Ken, I can't say it's the most useful qualification I have (apart from it being one of the only good ones!) and besides I have a excellent job now that will get me other qualifications (that unfortunately won't be multi choice) that have nothing to do with that one!

I hate education but at least some of it's blaggable. :blah:

I just came back to check on everything. Tommy I forgot how scary that avatar picture was. Anyway... was just thinking how much fun NWN 1 was and its a shame we've all moved on to different games or just different life styles. I'm playing D&D unlimited online. It's fun if any are interested. I used to play WoW after I made a lvl 80 troll mage and having fun I realized nearly everyone on there is pissed off and has no humor. WoW is kinda lame but in an addictive way. I say screw WoW!

Hi Tass. Yeah, NWN was a great game. Probably the best implementation of D&D, ever.
Great shame they dropped the ball and screwed up with NWN2.

But nothing lasts forever. And i'm glad we all got to enjoy it, for as long as we did.
You guys made me belly laugh so much, it hurt. Which was a really great gift, even
if you don't appreciate or understand why it was so valuable.

Hello Kendo. Hello Tass. Hello Tommy, hello Chopper, hello Yuna and hello Wild!!!
:grouphug:

Please see my post here http://www.theblackdogma.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=539 about my plan to host a PvP Arena like Circus Maximus in NWN1.

In fact Kendo. If you still have the Module Circus Maximus I would host it IMMEDIATELY.

Aww that is sad for me since I use it a lot to keep up with friends and use it as a tool to communicate with the fans of nwn. I would have enjoyed keeping up with you Ken.

What do you think of google+ ?

right now, no one has requested to join the facebook group, so that is a little disappointing. But not completely unexpected. Still, I was hoping for Tommy and his friends yuna, eph, malto, etc.
