Kraftwerk have the Autobahn, we have the M1.

Without a doubt, it’s the road we’ve travelled most in The Black Dog. From Sheffield, all the way to where the M1 ends, it’s a road we know almost by heart. It’s also where we have always tested our music, listening for the flow, structure, repetition and response of a track, and how it changes the way we drive.

It was only a matter of time before we made an album specifically for travelling the M1.

Every track was road tested, often repeatedly. We’d work on them during the day, take them out on the road, listen, make changes and go back out again. Different times, different traffic, different weather. The tracks gradually changed to suit the journey.

There’s something strangely relaxing about being alone in a car while surrounded by hundreds of other people, all travelling the same road but going somewhere else. The road repeats itself, the landscape changes and the junctions come and go.

In The North is about the M1, Sheffield, the North and the particular feeling of travelling a road you know by heart.

Sound of the Crowd – Festival Of The Mind 2026

Over the summer, we’ve been working with Guy and Nikki from the University of Sheffield to build a new interactive project for Festival of the Mind 2026.

Sound of the Crowd
The Sound of the Crowd is an interactive exhibit utilising the electronic music archive of The Black Dog. Grounded in research by Professor Guy Brown and Professor Nikki Dibben, the installation invites you to train an AI learning model with your own choices, co-creating a brand-new track shaped entirely by the audience.

About Festival of the Mind 2026
“A mind-blowing celebration of the University of Sheffield’s world-leading research is heading to the city centre this autumn, as Festival of the Mind returns with over 40 free live performances, exhibitions, films and interactive events.”

The live exhibit at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield, is open 6–15th of November 2026, 11am–5pm (4pm on Sunday).

The Black Dog – Live at Dekmantel, 2026

Recorded from the UFO II stage at the Dekmantel Festival (Amsterdam) in 2026, The Black Dog deliver their Loud Ambient live set for the first time.

“We don’t play live that often these days, choosing the studio over airports, but it’s great to get out and play every now and then.

We had a great time at Dekmantel, and it was fantastic to hear the tracks over such a large system. There’s something about hearing music you’ve spent months making in the studio suddenly filling a space that makes all the travelling worthwhile.

Every year, we try to give something back to our community, and this album is our gift to you. A small thank you for all the support throughout 2026. It’s been a wicked creative year for us, and we’ve got plenty more music on the way.

The Liber series was always about the dancefloor; Dark rooms, loud systems, repetition, pressure and the point where the machinery takes over. Liber Eleven continues that idea with the original tracks remastered and re-issued on CD, limited edition vinyl and digital downloads.

This is The Black Dog in full techno mode. Hypnotic, physical and built for big systems, with enough strange corners to keep things interesting when the lights go down. It all started with the EPs Liber Kult, Liber Temple and Liber Nox, followed by the albums Liber Dogma and Liber Chaos. Eleven picks up that thread and carries it forward.

Babylon (Remastered)

I don’t remember talking to Ken about this album very much. I do remember his manager sending me the album and singles, along with a bit of chat about the quality of Jimmy Cauty’s remixes. Beyond that, it was one of those records that quietly appeared and then slowly disappeared again.

Looking back, this feels like Ken’s second solo Black Dog album. It has always sat slightly outside the main Black Dog story and, because of that, it never seemed to receive the attention it deserved. Over the years it became increasingly difficult to find, and for many people it simply vanished.

We’re making it available again because it deserves to be heard. We also want Ken’s work to remain available as a complete archive, rather than leaving important releases scattered across deleted CDs, out of print vinyl and disappearing digital services.

One thing that has always puzzled us is why the release ended up consisting mostly of remixes of Ken’s original recordings. We’ve spoken to people involved at the time, but nobody seems able to remember exactly how or why that decision was made. The original DAT tapes are still safely stored away and, one rainy day, we may return to them and finally release the original versions as they were first recorded.

Originally released on Warner ESP in 1998, Babylon became one of the last projects that Ofra Haza worked on before her untimely death on 23 February 2000. Her voice, combined with Ken’s production, created something that still sounds unlike anything else from that period.

A few years after its release, Ken reflected on the project and said:

“Out of everything I’ve ever done, I think the Babylon project is the one thing that I’m most proud of.”
